Volunteer Info

Volunteers are crucial to oiled wildlife rescue efforts in California

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING WITH THE OIL SPILL RESPONSE FOR THE DEEPWATER HORIZON SPILL IN THE GULF OF MEXICO, PLEASE CALL (866) 448-5816. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteer opportunities in California, please read below.

The OWCN works with two kinds of volunteers: "Pre-trained" volunteers who have an ongoing relationship with one of our network member organizations, and "convergent" volunteers who are concerned members of the public who want to help out during a spill event.

"Pre-trained" volunteers: The best way to help out with the rehabilitation of oiled animals is to get involved before a spill happens. By volunteering with one of these organizations you'll gain valuable experience and be eligible for the OWCN's specialized training in rehabilitating oiled animals. Learn more on how to become a "pre-trained" volunteer.

"Convergent" volunteers: If you are viewing this page during an active spill, it's probably too late for one of our network members to get you trained and up to speed. But we may still need your help. Learn more on how to become a "convergent" volunteer.
