Become a Convergent Volunteer

Video here (or slideshow) explaining what it's like to be a volunteer: work conditions, intrinsic rewards, etc. Finish with how to get started.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with oil spill cleanup and rehabilitation.

"Convergent" volunteers are unpaid employees of the Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) at the California Department of Fish and Game. You'll sign up with the OSPR and attend their required training. OSPR then provides volunteers to work with the OWCN and the various other organizations involved in a spill response.

Requirements

All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must attend a mandatory introductory and safety presentation. You'll have to sign an Oath of Allegiance to the State of California, along with other required paperwork.

Procedures During Oil Spills

During oil spills, call OSPR's volunteer hotline at (800) 228-4544 to find out about scheduled trainings.

If possible, please download and fill out the following paperwork, and bring copies with you to the Volunteer Orientation:

Procedures During Non-Spill Periods

Please visit the OSPR Volunteer Program page to read more about the volunteer program.

Thanks again for your interest in volunteering.
